DORCHESTER Town boss Phil Simkin is set to hold further talks with Warren Byerley this evening.

The free agent and former Magpie netted two goals in the Dorset Senior Cup on Tuesday night but it is still unclear whether he is going to seal a permanent return to the club.

Simkin told Echosport: “I will speak to Warren this evening and see where we are going to go.

“I have got a few irons in the fire and he is obviously one of them but at the moment he is some way off being match fit because he has hardly played.”

Another ex-Town ace, Gary Bowles, is also a possible acquisition after his exit from AFC Bournemouth, along with Rico Wilson, who has recently been released from prison after serving seven months for an assault charge. Simkin added: “We are just monitoring it at the moment with Gary – we are having a look at it.

“As for Rico, he requires surgery to move some floating bone in his ankle, so we won’t see him until after Christmas now.

“We shall be taking him back once he is up and running there is no doubt about that because he scores goals.

“He is also a very different lad now to what he was a few months ago.”

The Magpies return to action on Saturday when they travel to Didcot Town in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy (3pm). They are also set to visit Havant & Waterlooville in Blue Square Bet South on Tuesday (7.45pm).
