THE Magpies will have to be at their best if they are to avoid a role-reversal at Didcot Town tomorrow, according to Phil Simkin.

The Dorchester Town boss watched the Railwaymen defeat North Leigh on Tuesday night and reckons his side are in for a tough afternoon.

The county town outfit have been flying high ever since last Sunday’s FA Cup victory over League Two side Plymouth Argyle but this weekend they are the ones there to be shot at.

Speaking ahead of the FA Trophy third qualifying round tie at Loop Meadow (3pm), Simkin told Echosport: “I am glad I went up there and watched them with my own eyes because they are a decent side and it is going to be a very tough game.

“Their league position does not tell the whole situation and unlike last Sunday we are the ones that are two divisions above and because of that they will see us as a scalp.

“They put Maidenhead United out of the FA Cup and I could see why.

“They also knocked Poole Town out of the Trophy in the previous round following a replay and having spoken to Tommy Killick (Poole boss) it appears they deserved to go through and were the better side over the two games.

“If we go there and do our jobs properly we will be fine but anything less than that and we are likely to find it difficult.

“Last Sunday was absolutely fantastic but it is now up to me and Stuart Heath to make sure the players’ heads are right.

“Their performance against Plymouth has really set them up because I am now going to be expecting that every week.

“Whether I will get that now I do not know because that is why League clubs employ psychologists and everything else but that is what we have got to aim for.”

When asked for team news ahead of the clash, Simkin added: “The Plymouth game did take a lot out of the players but there is nothing serious at the moment just knocks and bruises and run of the mill things.

“Sam Malsom played in the Dorset Senior Cup game on Tuesday night and came through that okay, and we are also grateful to Steve Perry-man and the lads at Exeter City for letting us keep Jake Gosling for another month. As for Jake Reid, he has now gone back.”

The Magpies have lost their last three on the road but Simkin is confident a change of app-roach will help to remedy that form in the weeks ahead.

He went on to say: “We have not done well away from home so far this season but looking back I can possibly see a reason why and don’t think it will be a problem any more.

“It is something Stuart and I have spoken about and tomorrow we will be going down a particular line and game plan where we might not be so gung-ho.”

Didcot currently lie 13th in Evo-Stik Division One South & West but they do hold games in hand on the majority of the teams above them.
