No guarantees on King's future

MAKING PROGRESS: Brendon King MAKING PROGRESS: Brendon King

NIGEL Biddlecombe is pleased with the Terras’ progress this season but has admitted he cannot speak for the board on the subject of Brendon King’s future.

Several club officials called for the current boss to be removed back in Novem-ber but since then the team has climbed up to seventh in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, just four points off the play-offs.

Despite the upturn in fortunes though, it appears a new deal for King is still not yet a guarantee despite Biddlecombe’s continued backing.

When asked for an update on the situation, the Weymouth chairman told Echosport: “When Brendon King’s deal is up that is a discussion that will need to take place on the football part of the board.

“The same applies to Matt Groves’ deal as assistant-manager while his playing contract will be down to him and Brendon.

“Neither of them has approached me to ask about any of that at present and I think the majority of people are quite happy they are performing well.

“I certainly cannot speak for the board on this one but generally speaking everyone is satisfied with the way things have turned around.

“We had a little blip against Leamington recently but they are a very strong side so that was hardly a surprise. Apart from that we have been progressing quite nicely and we will talk to Brendon and Matt about their contracts when the time comes.”

Reflecting on the season so far, Biddlecombe went on to add: “At the start of the campaign we had a two-year plan and so far we are well on the way with that.

“We are certainly not fighting relegation anymore and we have already begun to talk about how we can push on next year.

“In many ways things are moving along well at the moment and there are no worries or pressure there.

“Brendon and Matt are certainly not pushing us and everyone’s main focus at present is just to keep building on our current position.”

Despite his current contract only running to the end of the season, King has already offered new deals to several players and is undergoing talks with others.

Biddlecombe said: “Brendon is in the process of talking to players and as soon as anyone signs we will let people know.

“He has offered some new deals already and will be talking to others in due course.”

The Terras, who have failed to pick up a win in their last three games, are set to return to action at title-chasing Hemel Hempstead Town on Saturday, following back-to-back postponements against Frome Town and Bridport.

Bit of an odd article really. Chairman states they have a two year plan but Brendan's contract only runs until the end of the season. Surely the Chairman and board should extend Brendan's contract for Another season and back him 100%. Keep some stability and back the manager. Seems to me something fishy is going on and the board are waiting for some bad results and an excuse to sack him.

Surprised to read this after Nigel and the board backed Brendon earlier in the season when things werent going our way, and just last week (or was it the week before?) Biddie was saying the decision to back King had been vindicated?
Very odd, think stability is key at this level and I for one am fully behind Brendon. I'll admit to having had my doubts but the guy's proved me wrong

As above- results have improved, yet the Chairman and board won't publicly support him.

If they DO support him, then why not say "We are very happy with the recent run of results and we will certainly be discussing our long term plans with Brendon at the end of the season".
