THE Terras will look to strengthen their bid for the play-offs tomorrow when they tackle St Albans City at the Bob Lucas Stadium (3pm).

Brendon King’s men currently sit just two points adrift of the top five but know they need to string a run of wins together to stand any chance of being in the promotion picture come the end of the season, with all the teams above them holding games in hand.

Defender Sam Poole told Echosport: “It’s a tough time at the moment.

“We’ve had two long trips this past week and the games are coming thick and fast.

“As a result a couple of the lads are carrying knocks but we are still playing well and when you are full of confidence like we are at the moment, it makes it all so much easier to deal with.

“The fact we scored six away from home at Kettering on Wednesday night shows how much belief we have at present, and although St Albans are one place above us, we have really got to be favourites to win that now.

“We beat them at their place back in November which was really the start of our good run, and if we could get another result tomorrow it would be massive for us.

“It’s just about taking one game at a time though.

“That is the message the manager has been trying to get across to us and as long we don’t start looking too far ahead I am sure we can keep the momentum going.”

Victory this weekend would see Weymouth surpass their points tally from the whole of last season and Poole is adamant that is clear proof of the ongoing progress at the club.

He added: “Last season was my first one at this level and it was the same for Mark Ford and Ashley Wells too.

“We have gained a lot more experience since then and with older heads like Danny Clay, Barry McConnell and Scott Walker having come in too, I think we are now a completely different proposition.

“Brendon King deserves huge credit for that, particularly in terms of the way we set up now, and every side knows this season they are in for a tough game whenever they come up against us.

“We also have a great squad ethic at the moment. Everyone knows their role in the team, we all trust each other and there is good competition for places, which is exactly what you want.”

The Terras, who will welcome back Kyle Critchell and Craig Duff this weekend, have won three out of their last four while the Saints have taken 13 points from their last five.

King said: “It’s a massive game, both sides are in decent form and the last time we met it ended 3-2, so it really does have all the hallmarks of an absolute cracker.”
