BRENDON King was overjoyed with Saturday’s 2-1 triumph at Hitchin Town and immediately dedicated the victory to injured defender Kyle Critchell.

Following the shock news in midweek that the 26-year-old would miss the rest of the season, it was always going to be interesting to see how the Terras would react and they passed the test with flying colours.

Ben Joyce and Scott Walker both found the target before Jhai Dhillon pulled one back, and although the visitors were holding on towards the end, it was another great away performance.

Boss King told Echosport: “It was a good win. We were comfortable at 2-0 and absolutely cruising. They then got a goal out of nothing, which caused us to put a bit of pressure on ourselves but in the end we managed to come through it.

“There were some big performances on the day and afterwards I was absolutely delighted.

“It was a do-it-for-Kyle type of thing and the way everyone responded was just fantastic.

“Not only was Kyle out but we were also missing Ed Palmer and Danny Clay through suspension and all three of those are big players for us.

“However, Craig Duff and Jamie Skinner came into the middle of midfield and I thought they were both superb.

“It’s a big, old pitch at Hitchin and they were on a nice, little run themselves, so to go there and get a win in such circumstances was very pleasing indeed.”

Weymouth have now taken 15 points from their last six games in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division where they currently lie sixth, just one point adrift of the play-offs.

However, with a tough trip to second-placed Hemel Hempstead Town next on the agenda, King is continuing to adopt a cautious approach. He added: “We have got 10 games to go and they are all cup finals.

“We have got to go to Hemel tomorrow night and we know how tough that is going to be, so we will just keep taking it one game at a time and see where it takes us.

“If we can carry on the run we are currently on then who knows?”
