Luck not with Chickens in scoreless draw

CHICKERELL UNITED 0 CRANBORNE 0

THE woodwork frustrated the Chickens as they were forced to settle for a goalless draw at home to Cranborne.

Sean Stewart and Dan Austin both sent efforts against the crossbar and Josh Tennant struck a post on one of those days where the ball just would not go in for Maurice Welch’s men.

The Chickerell United boss said: “Unfortunately we could not get our shooting boots on.

“I was happy with the performance because we played well and created chance after chance but in the end the result was a bit frustrating.

“We controlled the game for long periods and hit the bar twice and the post once. Their keeper also pulled off a couple of outstanding saves while Josh Why was pulled down in the box for what looked like a stonewall penalty, but unfortunately we did not get it.

“Our performance should have been enough to win it but they seem to have something over us at the minute because a similar thing happened at their place earlier in the season.”

The result very nearly got even worse for Chickerell in the closing stages but Steve Boore came to the rescue.

Welch added: “They did not create a chance really until right at the end.

“They had a couple of long shots which Steve dealt with well but it wasn’t until the closing stages when we pushed on desperately looking for the winner that they nearly caught us out.

“In fact they had a couple of chances to nick it but Steve made a smart save right at the end to ensure they didn’t.”

The Chickens remain sixth in the Magna Dorset Premier League, just one point adrift of the top four.

Chickens: Boore, S Welch, Burton, Butcher, Lambert, Preece, Stewart, Churchill, Austin (Tarnawski 60), Why, Tennant. Sub not used: Miles.
