MAGPIES: Bassele deal for Simkin
PHIL Simkin has increased his attacking options with the loan signing of Aristide Bassele from AFC Bournemouth.
The powerful winger, who can also play up front, trained with the Magpies on Thursday night and goes straight into the squad for this afternoon’s Skrill South clash at Concord Rangers (3pm).
Simkin told Echosport: “Aristide trained really well, he is a lovely lad and I think he will make a difference to us.
“I am once again very grateful to AFC Bournemouth for helping us out and I am sure he will give us that physical presence up front we have been lacking.”
Bassele is the second loan signing Simkin has managed to agree with the Cherries this season, following the recent arrival of Brandon Goodship.
The Dorchester Town boss added: “Brandon is a good, technical player and a good finisher but so far he has found it hard going with the physical side of the game at this level.
“However, Aristide is a different kettle of fish. No one is going to knock him about and hopefully he will do well for us and for himself at the same time.”
Bassele, who went out on loan to Lincoln City earlier this year, could line up alongside striker Ben Watson this afternoon, although it is still not clear whether the latter will make the trip.
Simkin said: “Ben is still a slight doubt. His partner has just had a baby and at the end of the day family comes first.”
Meanwhile, Mark Jermyn and Charlie Clough are both set to feature. Jermyn was rested last weekend while Simkin has no qualms about playing Clough, despite the defender having handed in a transfer request earlier this week.
Concord, who are renowned for being a big, physical side, currently sit 16th, four points above the Magpies, who lie second bottom.
