TERRAS: King hails new signing
BRENDON King reckons new signing Dave Allen will prove a key man for the Terras over the remainder of the campaign.
The experienced midfielder made his debut in last night’s 2-1 home win over AFC Totton after joining the club on non-contract terms from Calor Southern Premier Division rivals Bashley.
Speaking after the game, King told Echosport: “I thought he settled in well and the longer the game went on the better he got.
“He gives us more of a physical presence in that particular area of the field and he also scores goals at this level as well, so I think he will turn out to be a great acquisition for us.”
The Weymouth boss watched his men create plenty of chances against the Stags but admits there is still plenty of room for improvement.
He added: “Their intention was clear from the start and that was to put nine men behind the ball and try and catch us on the break, which they did at times during the first half.
“When you are left with three defenders marking one man, people can become a little lazy but we soon sorted that out at the interval and in the second half I thought we completely controlled it.
“As well as the goals from Sam Poole and Stewart Yetton, we also struck the post twice and had another effort cleared off the line, so on another day it could have been more but the win was the most important thing and we got it.
“There are still certain things we are not happy about but hopefully we can put those right on Saturday at home to Hemel Hempstead when we are going to have to be a lot better.”
Hemel currently lead the table and are six points clear of the Terras, who now lie fifth.
