FOOTBALL: Britannia bounce back in goal-fest
JORDY Bowler and Antony Carlile both grabbed braces as Britannia came out on top in an eight-goal thriller against Sailors Return in the Moby Dick’s Weymouth Sunday League.
Entering the game off the back of a 9-1 defeat against Bar 314 on the opening day, the Portlanders were determined to bounce back and they did it in style with some emphatic finishing.
Having made five changes to their side, the Brit raced out of the blocks and took the lead after just 10 minutes when Chris Squibb was hauled down in the box allowing Carlile to fire home from the spot in his first appearance for the club for three seasons.
The impressive Bowler then added two fine goals either side of a Sailors’ reply, before the visitors grabbed another prior to the break to make it 3-2.
The away side then came out and played much better in the second period but the Brit stood firm and traded blows with Tyler Whitmarsh increasing the lead before the quaysiders replied once more.
Sailors then continued to probe but when Carlile grabbed another it was game over with the islanders securing a 5-3 win.
There were also eight goals at Broadmayne where reigning champions Bar 314 triumphed 6-2.
Paul Aston was inspirational for the visitors in the midfield while new signing Grant Chance grabbed a hat-trick. Their other goals came from Ricky Lane, with two, and Les Lewis from the spot. Dolphin also chalked up back-to-back victories with a 3-1 success against Moby Dick’s.
Mark Cheater and Charlie May were among the scorers for the Park Street outfit with Dan Shepperd grabbing the consolation.
Elsewhere, Alexandra and Lazy Lizard both enjoyed 4-0 victories against Bakers Arms and Market House respectively, while Radi-pole triumphed 4-3 against Dolce Vita. Liam Briers, Rob Golsby and William Mitchell, with a brace, did the damage for the Lizard.
