TERRAS: Squad ready for testing time, says Matt Groves
THE resilience of the Terras’ squad is set to be put to the test over the coming weeks but assistant-manager Matt Groves reckons the players can rise to the challenge.
Weymouth host Bridgwater Town tomorrow (3pm) in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy as the Dorset club gets ready for the start of a hectic fixture schedule.
The Terras weren’t helped by the postponement of Tuesday’s Red Insure League Cup tie at Bashley, despite the best efforts of keeper Jason Matthews, an electrician by trade, to fix their opponents’ faulty floodlights.
With an interest in three cup competitions and the league, boss Brendon King will need to use his squad efficiently in the upcoming busy period.
“Not everyone is going to be able to play all the matches coming up but there are people who are hungry for some game time,” said Groves.
“It’s a good opportunity for people to come in and then try and hold on to a place, and everyone wants to play in something like the FA Cup.
“We are going with our strongest side tomorrow. We all want to win the game and against lower division opposition we’ve got a great chance.”
Bridgwater currently lie fifth in Calor League Division One South & West with games in hand over all the teams above them.
