FOOTBALL: Charitable Upwey held by Cheriton
UPWEY & BROADWEY 2 SOUTH CHERITON 2
STEVE Reynolds berated his side’s charitable nature following this frustrating draw against South Cheriton.
Boss Reynolds told Echosport: “We gave them both their goals and if we continue being that charitable we will soon find ourselves too far off the pace to catch up.
“In the middle third of the pitch no one has matched us yet this season but games are won and lost in both boxes and our decision-making clearly needs to improve both defensively and in front of goal.”
Cheriton took the lead after just two minutes when Richard Frost tripped an opponent in the box for a clear penalty.
Phil Anderson then headed Upwey back level before a poor pass from Charlie Kenderdine gifted the visitors another.
To his credit, Kenderdine immediately made amends for that error by levelling at the other end but, for all their possession in the second half, the hosts were unable to find a winner.
Reynolds added: “At half-time I read the riot act to them and in the second half we had them on the rack for the full 45 min-utes.
“They never really got a kick during that time but despite hammering them and getting plenty of balls into the box we just couldn’t get another breakthrough.
“It was extremely frustrating and it was another two points just thrown away.”
Upwey, who travel to Corfe Mullen United on Saturday, now sit seventh in the Dorset Senior League, seven points adrift of leaders Sturminster Marshall.
Upwey: Wyatt, Porteous, Alcock, Anderson, Pearce, R Zima (Dixon 75), Frost, Kenderdine, Woodward (May 60), Devaney, Bochonko. Subs not used: Purnell, Aston.
