OKEFORD UNITED 0 UPWEY AND BROADWEY 3

UPWEY and Broadwey eased to a routine victory at the Recreation Ground against a stubborn Okeford side content to keep the score down as much as possible.

Visiting boss Steve Reynolds admitted Okeford’s policy of getting all their men behind the ball for virtually the full 90 minutes wasn’t the easiest to deal with.

However, goals from Pete Bochonko, Lee Pattison and Lewis Ironside wrapped up the three points for Reynolds’s side as they made it nine Dorset Senior League matches without defeat.

“Okeford set their stall out from the start and it was just a case of damage limitation on their part,” said Reynolds.

“They put 11 men behind the ball at all times and we were camped in their half trying to thread the ball through a mass of bodies.

“At one point I did wonder if we were going to score and 3-0 really flattered them, it could have been 10-0.

“The breakthrough came on 30 minutes when Ethan Devaney dribbled his way into the box and was surrounded by Okeford players.

“It was a bit of genius that got him out of that situation and he found Pete Bochonko who side-footed it in.

“It was 1-0 at half-time and we thought they had to come out and try and play in the second half but it was just more of the same.

“Ethan was involved in the second for Lee Pattison and Lewis Ironside got the third with a shot from the edge of the box.

“We’re on a good run now and looking forward to the Dorset Senior Trophy game against South Cheriton on Saturday.”

Reynolds felt all his players performed well at Okeford, especially Devaney, who had a hand in two of his side’s three goals.

On the midfielder, Reynolds added: “No-one else in our squad could have set up that first goal.

“I do wonder to myself how he does some of the things he produces on the pitch.

“Ethan is a quality player who has got the talent to play at a higher level.”

There was a welcome return to the Upwey side on the weekend for captain Phil Anderson and midfielder Sam Purnell, and Reynolds hopes to have more of his injured players available soon.

Upwey: Gregg, Dixon, Alcock, Anderson, Pearce, Pattison (R Zima 60), Ironside, Purnell (Kenderdine 55), Frost, Devaney, Bochonko
