MAGPIES: Troubled Dorchester buoyed by duo

Dorset Echo: EXTENDED STAY: Charlie Losasso EXTENDED STAY: Charlie Losasso

DORCHESTER Town’s bid for Skrill South survival took another hit on Saturday but it was confirmed after the match that Charlie Losasso and Jake McCarthy are to stay at the Avenue for another month.

The Magpies need all the good news they can get at the moment and boss Phil Simkin told Echosport following the 3-2 reverse at Farnborough that Bournemouth had agreed to extend the young duo’s loan deals.

While Losasso has been involved with the first team since arriving in Dorchester, McCarthy hasn’t figured at all in Simkin’s match day plans after injuring an ankle while training with the Cherries.

“Charlie and Jake are going to be staying for another month,” said Simkin, who felt Losasso had his best game for the club at Paddy Power Park on the weekend.

“Charlie has found it difficult in the last few weeks but on better pitches he will be more effective.

“Jake is a highly-rated pros-pect in his first year as a pro. He trained with us a couple of times and is a good athlete, and I’m looking forward to getting him back.”

Simkin is still uncertain as to whether or not Southampton loanee Fraser Colmer has played his last game for Dorchester.

Colmer was told by the Saints that he isn’t being offered a new contract for next season and has been training with Bournemouth.

The defender arrived at the Magpies on an initial month-long loan a week before Christmas.

Meanwhile, Simkin sang the praises of his other loan signings, Nathan Walker and Warren Byerley, following the Farnborough setback.

He added: “Nathan was excellent and it is great to have him back, off the pitch and on it.

“Warren had an excellent game. He held the ball up and showed his quality – he made a massive difference.

“We played very well going forward and a lot of that was down to Warren who makes things tick.

“He brings people into play and that’s what we’ve been missing.”

Dorchester’s next fixture is away to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday when Clive Makoni will be available after serving a three-game ban.
