KANGAROOS 1 BERE REGIS 0

KANGAROOS put the previous weekend’s cup exit behind them as they returned to winning ways in Dorset League Division One against rock bottom Bere Regis.

With a heavy pitch and windy conditions, it took the Roos 10 minutes to get into their stride.

They started to create chances and the first fell to Jamie Samways, but after rounding the keeper he missed the target from a tight angle.

Then on 20 minutes a corner swung in by Rich Beasley was met by the head of Keiren Gallimore only for his effort to strike an upright.

The Roos finally took the lead on the half hour when great build up play resulted in Ash White forcing the ball over the line.

Ross Foot was put clean through on the half-time whistle and despite beating the visitors’ keeper with a delicate chip, his attempt bounced back off the bar.

The Roos started the second half pushing for a second to kill the game off, but as with the first half they let chance after chance go begging.

Samways had a great opportunity to make the game safe when he ran clear of the defence only to shoot straight at the keeper.

Then on 75 minutes the Roos were awarded a penalty. Top scorer Beasley stepped up but he was denied by a great save from the Bere keeper.

Five minutes later, Beasley found himself in a great position in the box but his shot missed the target.

Roos were made to sweat for the three points late on when Bere had their best chances of the game and nearly punished the hosts.

They went close from an in-swinging corner and then with nearly the last kick of the game a screamer from just outside the box skimmed the Roos’ bar.

The Roos are home again this Saturday when Weymouth Spartans are the visitors to Sandringham (2pm).
