THE Magpies will again be looking to settle old scores tomorrow when the side that put five past them in January visit the Avenue.

It may have only been two months ago that a depleted Dorchester team suffered a 5-0 thrashing at Boreham Wood, but things have changed since then.

Phil Simkin’s men have won three and drawn one of their last four Skrill South fixtures, and now sit just four points behind tomorrow’s visitors in the table.

Wood are not out of the woods in the battle for survival by any means and Wednesday night’s home defeat to Havant was a reminder that they remain in the dogfight to stay up.

However, Wood manager Ian Allinson has bolstered his squad with the acquisition of potent striker Loick Pires, who will present a big threat going forward alongside on-loan Wycombe duo Junior Morias and Lee Angol.

For the Magpies, Jamie Gleeson’s pelvic problem has improved but it is likely that a final decision on his fitness won’t be made until just before kick-off.

If Gleeson doesn’t make it then captain Mark Jermyn could possibly move into the holding role in midfield, while Dan Munday turned an ankle playing for the reserves in midweek and is almost definitely out.

Looking back on that 5-0 loss earlier in the year, Simkin said: “We had an extremely weakened side out on the day.

“It was difficult to get 11 players on the pitch and we got what we deserved, a good thumping – but things are different now.

“At the moment, all the results are going for us, but they won’t keep on doing that.

“I don’t want to look at the table too much but if we get a few more points it might make things a bit closer.

“I think everybody is looking over their shoulder.”

He added: “We were a little bit below par last Saturday but we got out of it with a draw.

“Our passing was poor, although the pitch didn’t help us, and we had too many off colour.

“We just need to sharpen up all over the pitch.”

Meanwhile, Simkin confirmed that Charlie Losasso has signed non-contract forms with the club after his release by Bournemouth.

And he revealed that Harry Bell, sidelined by a bad ankle injury for some time, is leaving the club to pursue a career as a pilot.

“I’m thankful and grateful for everything he has done,” said Simkin. “He is a lovely lad and I wish him all the best for his career.

“He is a very intelligent lad and I’m sure he will make a success of it.”
