CHICKERELL UNITED 2 SOUTH CHERITON 6

IT was simply “one of those days” for Chickerell United and boss Steve Coward as the hosts were hit for six at the Stalls.

Warren White gave the Chickens the lead but the visitors surged clear in the second half to complete a Dorset Senior League double over Coward’s men.

With Westland Sports winning, defeat for Chickerell saw them drop to second place in the table.

“It was one of those days,” said Coward. “They seem to be our bogey side and the only team we’ve dropped maximum points to.

“They came out really strong and won every ball, had six shots on goal and scored six times.

“It was our worst performance of the year. From back to front, all through the team, it just didn’t happen.

“We were very weak at the back and individual mistakes saw us ship goals. They worked well as a team and you can’t take it away from them.

“At the same time you expect your team, who have gone two points clear at the top, not to have a disappointing performance like that.

“But it’s football. Some-times it doesn’t matter if you put 110 per cent in.

“We’ve got to put it behind us and carry on. It’s a hard league and you can’t expect to win every game this season.”

Coward thought his side could have been in command inside the opening 20 minutes.

They had what he felt was a legitimate goal disallowed and strong appeals for a penalty waved away.

The hosts had gone in front through White, pictured, when the Cherries struck twice before the break and twice in five minutes after the restart.

A fifth had been added when White pulled one back but the Cherries had the last say and made it 6-2.

Warren scored two well-worked goals but it was frustrating that, with what we had going forward, we didn’t create nearly enough opportunities,” added Coward.

Meanwhile, Upwey & Broad-wey moved up to fourth place, courtesy of a 3-1 home win against Corfe Mullen United.

Charlie May, Robert Rolls and Nathan Aston got the Upwey goals with Dan Flooks replying.

Josh Burton scored for Portland United Reserves as they drew 1-1 at Piddletrenthide United, who found the net through Neil Kellaway.
