PATIENCE is going to be key for both Scott Walker and Terras’ fans over the coming weeks, according to the injured midfielder.
Walker has missed the last three games because of a groin strain and is eager to get back to help the Weymouth cause.
However, he knows he can’t rush things and wants to make a full recovery to avoid suffering a relapse.
And while Walker has to be patient, he feels the same has to go for Weymouth supporters as boss Jason Matthews tries to find a settled side.
Three defeats from the last four Calor Southern Premier encounters have left the Terras 14th in the table, 16 points adrift of the play-offs.
Matthews has brought in a number of new faces to the squad recently and Walker reckons the fans must give those players time to bed in.
“I feel sorry for Jason and the fans, but I think everyone has got to be a bit patient,” he said. “We’ve had a few players come in recently and things are never going to click straight away.
“The new lads have done really well but it’s difficult because we are having a different line-up each week. That’s the way it has been since Jason took over.
“He has done a brilliant job in the dressing room and everyone has got the belief but, like he said, we need a bit more experience in the team.
“You look at the midfield on Saturday and the average age was about 20, which is very young against such an experienced team.
“We just need the fans to be patient and understand it’s one of those processes where Jason is doing his hardest to get players in and build for next season.”
As for Walker, he has been a frustrated figure since coming off with a groin problem near the end of the 4-2 loss at Cambridge City.
Saturday’s home clash with Bashley will come too soon for the former captain, though he is hopeful of a return next week.
He added: “I’ve got my fingers crossed that I can come back as early as possible, but if I was to play Saturday I would probably be 70-80 per cent fit.
“I’m hoping it could be the Tuesday or Saturday after that I will be able to play again.
“It’s still sore around the pubic bone so I’ve got to be patient, because if I rush back I could end up being back at square one again.”
