WEYMOUTH Reserves’ boss Jake Richmond has bolstered his ranks with two new signings ahead of tomorrow’s away clash with Sherborne Town Reserves (3pm).

Ashley Staines has returned to his former club from Bridport and goes straight into the Terras’ squad for this weekend’s game.

Another defender, Patrick Byatt, has also joined but is not expected to make the trip to Sherborne.

“I’m always looking to sign quality players with the right attitude, but I don’t want players to stay in their comfort zone.

“I’m after players that want to be involved the whole season from start to finish and are 100 per cent committed.

“If they want to push for the first team then we are giving them the platform to do that, though they have to keep their end of the bargain.”

Commenting on Staines and Byatt, he added: “They have called me and want to come here to play, which says a lot.

“Ashley was with Weymouth a few years ago and wanted to try and play at a higher level.

“He is a fit lad and a very good footballer, and he wants to come back and help us develop the youngsters.

“Patrick has been to three or four training sessions and has got a great attitude.

“He wants to come and learn and play as well as he can.

“He might be involved in a couple of games this season and is someone who I’m look- ing at more for next season.”

A win for the Terras tomorrow would see them cement their position at the top of the Dorset Premier League.

Portland United are one of the sides hot on their heels and they are at Shaftesbury Town (3pm).

Alex Halloran returns to the squad but in-form Lewis Clarke is a doubt as he is awaiting the birth of his baby.

“I’ve been really pleased with how solid we have been defensively in the last two games, keeping clean sheets in both, which has given us the foundation to go on and win, so I will be looking for that to continue,” said boss Gary Bailey.

“Shaftesbury can be a tricky place to go and we know there is little room for error going into the final weeks of the season.”

Bridport Reserves take on second-placed Merley Cobham Sports at St Mary’s Field (3pm).

The Bees beat their opponents in the reverse fixture earlier in the season and could have Gary Bulman, Harry Fleet and Jack Scovell back.

“We beat them 2-0 before and were quite comfortable, but they have made a few changes since then,” said manager Robin Townsend.

In the Dorset Senior League, Chickerell United have Liam Miles and Elliot Stone available again for their home encounter with Corfe Mullen United.

Westland Sports, the Chickens’ title rivals, go to Portland United Reserves, and Upwey & Broad-wey are away at Kingston Lacy (all 3pm).
