UPDATE: TERRAS: Winsper suffers suspected broken metatarsal
WEYMOUTH'S Luke Winsper could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, after the midfielder suffered a suspected broken metatarsal against Bashley on Tuesday night.
Winsper was brought on as a second-half substitute as he replaced Steve Colwell for the final 20 minutes at Bashley Road, and suffered the injury in the latter stages.
The young midfielder was sent to hospital after the game and will be ruled out of the Terras’ double header against Burnham, as he sees a specialist about the foot injury next Tuesday.
Boss Jason Matthews told Echosport: “The swelling on his foot is so great at the moment we don’t know if it is definitely broken. He goes to see a fracture specialist next week so we just have to wait and see, he has been put on crutches and given a protective boot to wear until then.
He added: “I think that Luke has been outstanding since I have been in charge but it seems as if my injury jinx has struck yet again.
“He has done very well in the games he has played in this season and he would definitely be someone that I would look into giving a contract for next season.”
When asked if he would be looking to add to his squad and find a replacement for Winsper for the run-in, the Terras’ boss claimed: “I don’t think we will look to bring anymore in, I obviously have to operate within a budget and I feel the squad has good competition for places at the moment.”
Matthews also suggested that striker Mark Ford will resume light training with the squad on Thursday evening, following the triple break in his foot, and the player-manager will monitor his progress over the coming weeks.
Scott Walker could also be back in contention within a few games following his recent groin problem.
