PORTLAND United president Dave Camp and chairman Robin Sather-ley feel a “new impetus and a fresh approach” is needed to take the Grove Corner outfit to a “higher level”.

The duo, who between them have served the club for more than 80 years, are looking for new blood to help move the Blues forward as the time for them to relinquish their roles gets closer.

As well as maintaining and improving the club’s facilities, Camp, pictured, told Echosport that there is also a desire to play further up the football pyramid.

Portland are well placed to defend their Dorset Premier League crown this season and the ultimate goal is to gain a place in either the Wessex League or Western League – they last played in the Wessex League eight years ago.

“Although Portland United are probably considered by many people as being one of the top clubs in the Dorset Premier League with regards to facilities, history, and league and cup success, the feeling of stalwarts Robin Satherley and Dave Camp is that the Blues need to be taken to a higher level,” a club statement read.

“After more than 80 years of serving the club between them, the two feel that a new impetus and a fresh approach is required to ensure that the club moves in a positive direction.

“Robin and Dave will still give 100 per cent support to the club but feel the time is fast approaching for them both to relinquish the reins of the club.

“Although the club has a small but very hard working committee, they are facing an uphill struggle in the day to day running of the club in terms of people being able to devote the time and effort required to carry out the many tasks needed to take the club forward and maintain its excellent facilities.

“Ground maintenance is a big issue, together with running and manning the bar, production of a match day programme and website, sponsorship, funding, and refreshment kiosk.

“One major consideration is the post of secretary which Robin is relinquishing on May 31.”
