WEYMOUTH player-manager Jason Matthews has urged his Terras’ squad to show more desire as he targets an unbeaten Easter weekend.

The Terras have feebly slid down the Southern Premier Division table following four straight league de-feats, and boss Matthews has called for a much-needed response, starting with tomorrow’s trip to Redditch United (3pm).

“It’s a test of character for all of us really,” Matthews told Echosport.

“I have a target in my mind that I’d like to go the Easter Weekend unbeaten and I’m expecting a reaction from Tuesday because it was a game we should have won.

“We need to show more desire and get a bit more luck in front of goal, hopefully we can rectify that on Saturday.”

Scott Walker’s season looks to be over after his ongoing groin problem continues to keep him out of action.

Jacob Jagger-Cane will also face a late fitness test following the heel injury he sustained against Banbury in midweek, but defender Ashley Wells may be in contention to rejoin the squad as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Matthews’ men face a tough task against ninth-placed Redditch, who have picked up maximum points from their last three league encounters, and have scored 12 goals in their last four outings.

Off the field, with the signing of winger Adam Kelly secured for next season, the Weymouth manager also revealed that Kelly could be the first in a line of players to pen new deals over the coming weeks.

He added: “I’m delighted to get Adam on board and hopefully there will be a few more signings over the next week or so.”

* For the Terras’ final home game of the season on Easter Monday, the club’s Supporters Association will have a stall set up inside the stadium and fans will have another chance to cast their vote for this year’s Supporters’ Player of the Season award.

The winner will be announced at the end of season presentation evening on May 10, at Weymouth Pavilion’s Ocean Ballroom (7.30pm).

Tickets for the night are priced at £10 for WFCSA members, £12 for non-members, and are available from the WFCSA match day stall, the club office and shop, and also the Weymouth Pavilion box office.
