JASON Matthews reckons playing for the Terras will give George Rigg the “perfect platform to show his class”.

Midfielder Rigg, pictured, has signed a one-year deal after originally joining the club on non-contract terms in January.

And player-manager Matthews feels that Rigg now has the chance to recapture the form that made him a member of Stoke City’s development squad earlier in his career.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to have him on board,” said Matthews. “George brings plenty of energy to the squad and he is a good lad to have around the club.

“He can start afresh for next season and have more time to prepare with the squad, which he probably didn’t have when he came in January. He is an ambitious lad and this is a chance for him to get back to where he was.

“Being at Weymouth gives him the perfect platform to show his class and I’m glad to have signed him because we had to fight off a lot of interest from other clubs.”

Matthews also hopes that Rigg, 20, who came through the ranks at Bristol City and had a spell with Exeter City, can help boost the club’s chances of a brighter future.

He added: “The squad is starting to come together now and things are looking good for pre-season. There is a buzz around the club that hasn’t been there for a couple of seasons.”
