YOUNGSTERS looking to realise their full potential have received a huge boost with the resurrection of the Weymouth Under-18s team.

Experienced youth team coach Mickey Lawrence and Ben Richmond, son of reserves’ boss Jake Richmond, are re-establishing the side with the full support of the club.

As of next season the Under-18s will play in the South West Counties League, a competition which gives young players the opportunity to hone their skills and potentially represent their respective senior sides.

And the Terras are calling on talent from Dorset and the surrounding areas who want to get involved in the set-up.

Redlands will be hosting two squad trials next month, the first on Tuesday, July 15, and the second on Thursday, July 17 (both run from 7pm-8.30pm).

Those who want to be considered for a place in the Under-18s should be 16 by August 31 this year or not have reached their 18th birthday by the same date.

“Weymouth FC have a first-class track record in producing young players via the Under-18s who have progressed to play at a high standard of senior football,” said club chairman Nigel Biddlecombe.

“Kyle Critchell went on to represent Wales after becoming a professional footballer and Sam Poole went on to captain the Terras’ first team, to name just a couple.

“These are the aims we shall be striving to achieve once again.”

He added: “The Terras’ Under-18s are also searching for support from sponsors for next season.

“We believe this could be a great opportunity for prospective sponsors to be involved in the community, getting behind the talented young players that are out there, helping with their development, aiding them in achieving their dreams of progressing to a higher level of football and being given the chance of realising their full potential.

“This is the latest development in Weymouth FC’s efforts to put together a plan for local youngsters to move through the youth ranks and look to play for their local senior club, and comes on the back of the recently ann-ounced link-up with Weymouth FC Youth.”
