DORCHESTER’S Kangaroos FC reflected on their 2013/14 campaign with mixed feelings when the Bulls Head in Fordington hosted their end-of-season presentation evening.

First-team manager Stuart Damon said that while he was disappointed his side had not challenged for the Dorset League Division One title as expected, he was proud of his squad who finished the season on a great run that saw them lose only three of their last 17 fixtures.

Damon set his men the target of building on the previous season’s fifth-place finish and, in particular, wanted to gain more points than the previous term’s tally of 32. The Roos achieved both of these goals, finishing fourth with a total of 43 points on the board.

Damon said he is excited about the forthcoming season as his squad had now been assembled for the best part of two seasons, and they had already shown that they are an excellent footballing side capable of beating any other team in the league.

On the night, Rich Beasley picked up the award for top scorer with 24 for the season, out-scoring Ross Foot who notched 15 in all competitions.

However, Foot claimed the manager’s player of the season, while Ash White and Luke Gatehouse shared the players’ player of the season accolade.

The other first-team awards went to Luke Gatehouse (most improved) and Taylor Quinton (young player of the season).

For the reserves, Billy Greenway and Dillon Acreman shared the top scorer award, and Denis Calcraft (manager’s player/players’ player), Craig Hewitt (most improved) and Mason Damon (young player) also picked up accolades.

The chairman’s awards went to Kieren Gallimore and Dillon Acreman.

The Roos will be looking to continue to improve ahead of next season and fully expect to challenge for promotion when the action starts again.

Damon has already been talking to some potential additions to the squad and would welcome any interested players to go pre-season training which starts on Tuesday, July 15.

In addition to new players, the club are looking for a permanent manager for the reserve team, who already have a fantastic mix of young and experienced players at their disposal.

Anyone interested would need to be able to attend training once a week (Tuesday evenings), where they will be given full charge of the team.
