JOHN Greenslade has paid tribute to out-going Magpies’ chairman Neal Butterworth, praising his “determination to see things through”.

Greenslade, chairman of the Dorchester Town Community Trust, also voiced his support for Matt Lucas, Butterworth’s temporary replacement.

“Neal Butterworth’s decision to resign as chairman is regrettable but understandable given the other pressing demands on his time,” said Greenslade.

“Typically self-effacing, Neal made no reference to his many achievements since taking over as chairman.

“Neal’s professional approach to making some very difficult decisions around club finances shone through.

“He displayed a determination to see things through which quickly earned the respect of his board colleagues and others connected with the club.

“It is good to hear that Neal may not be severing his connection with the club completely. The club can ill-afford to lose people with the qualities he has.”

He went on to add: “On behalf of the Community Trust board, I’d also like to congratulate Matt Lucas on taking over as club chairman.

“Matt is DTFC through and through and we will continue to offer him and the club our full support and I urge others to do the same.”

Meanwhile, on the pitch, there is good news about defender Tony Rolls following his serious head injury in the friendly against Portland United on Tuesday night.

The match at the Avenue was abandoned after Rolls was taken to hospital during the second half.

Rolls suffered a heavy concussion but a brain scan didn’t show up anything more serious. He remained in hospital for a few hours and is expected to make a full recovery.
