WEYMOUTH RESERVES 3 SWANAGE TOWN & HERSTON 0

WEYMOUTH Reserves made it back-to-back wins in the Dorset Premier League after a convincing victory over Swanage Town & Herston at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The hosts, fielding a handful of first-team players in their ranks, were in control throughout the encounter and never looked back after Jamie Beasley opened the scoring win an accomplished finish after 18 minutes.

Mark Ford rattled the bar seven minutes later, but with Weymouth creating a number of chances, Swanage managed to keep it to just 1-0 at the interval.

But it took just three minutes in the second half for the home side to double their lead.

Full-back Jamie West, who was a standout performer throughout the game, overlapped on the right hand side and whipped in a cross that proved too hot to handle for the Swanage keeper, resulting in Luke Winsper tapping in from a yard out.

Mark Ford then got himself on the score sheet late on when he drilled a fierce effort home.

“We played really well and should have won by quite a bit more,” reserves’ boss Jake Richmond told Echosport.

“It was definitely our best performance of the season, they made it a battle for us but my keeper has probably only had two real saves to make.

“The most pleasing thing for me was keeping a clean sheet because we hadn’t looked like keeping one before this game.

“I have competition all over the park now with at least two options in every position, some lads aren’t happy because they are finding themselves on the bench or out of the squad. The challenge for them is to fight for their place.”

Terras: Park, West, Staines, Butcher, Poole, G Will (Nichols 84), Winsper, Beasley (P Ford 87), Jevon, M Ford, Zima. Subs not used: Chatterton, J Will, Ayley.

Richmond will now prepare his side for their away encounter with Sherborne Reserves on Saturday (3pm).

Commenting on the contest, he added: “They (Sherborne) are a typical reserve side like us, they may have two or three players that have to get game time.

“As long as we keep improving as we have been over the last two or three games we will be alright.”

The league’s two form sides will also do battle at Grove Corner on Saturday (3pm) when Portland United take on Hamworthy Recreation, in a repeat of last season’s Dorset Premier League Cup final.

Gary Bailey’s men, yet to concede a goal in the league so far this term, will take on a Rec side that has scored 15 goals in their opening four games.

Elsewhere, Bridport Reserves will take on Hamworthy United Reserves at St Mary’s Field (3pm).
