JASON Matthews was full of praise once again for creative midfielder Chris Shephard, as he was instrumental in the Terras’ 3-2 home win over Slough Town.

The former Exeter City man scooped his second successive home man of the match award on Saturday, and has been a revelation since his arrival to the club in the summer.

Commenting on his star performer, Matthews told Echosport: “He has given us some real quality.

“I felt that Shep was outstanding again, he is opening doors and he has been magnificent for me since I have brought him into the club.

“I am very surprised that other clubs higher than us haven’t taken him.

“He is a credit with how he has conducted himself since he has been here, he could have been playing two leagues higher and he has had to take that on the chin at the last minute.

“He has come in here and he is proving himself and putting himself in the shop window and I am really pleased for him because I love him as a lad.”

Commenting on the game itself, the player-manager added: “I felt that we played some very good stuff, we did concede two sloppy goals which was disappointing but let’s focus on the positives.

“It’s still early days, we are still a new side and we are improving, but we are winning as well, which is really pleasing.”

The Terras’ chief also took the time to hail the Weymouth support on Non-League Day.

He added: “It’s very nice and pleasing to get such a big crowd and fair play to Slough, they must have brought at least 80 or 90 as well.

“It feels like we are moving in the right direction, I am trying to play an expansive game and put a product on that fans will like, and people do seem to be buying into it.”
