WAREHAM RANGERS 2 BRIDPORT RESERVES 1

A STRIKE from Jack Scovell was not enough for Bridport Reserves to salvage anything from their Dorset Premier League clash with Wareham Rangers, as they succumbed to a 2-1 loss at Purbeck Sports Centre.

With manager Robin Townsend unavailable to lead his troops for the encounter, it was left to Mark Lock to take charge for the game, in which he felt his side should have got a result.

“We definitely could have got more out the game, we started well in the first half and had two or three good chances and should have really gone in ahead,” he told Echosport.

“We just didn’t work hard enough and that is what it comes down to.”

After a bright opening from the visitors, they fell behind when Dave Best found the net for the hosts just short of the half-hour mark.

Scovell then found himself in the right place at the right time for the Bees during a goalmouth scramble to smash the ball into the roof of the net and level things up 15 minutes from time.

But they were left with nothing to show for their efforts when Richard Parsons popped up to bag the winner for Wareham in the 84th minute.

To add to the Bees’ misery, they also had Russell Legg sent off for two bookable offences.

Lock added: “After our goal we thought we had a bit of momentum, but they scored a breakaway goal when we let one of their lads run in at the far post.

“We have to learn to close games out, we didn’t have our full team out but that’s just one of those things.

“We have just got to keep grinding results out, when things aren’t going for us we fold a little bit. We make chances but we don’t put them away well enough and we just have to take those chances when we are on top.”

Bees: Peart, Day, King, Evans, Baggs, Fouracre (Walken 85), Bulman, Fleet, Legg, Clarke, Scovell

Regular boss Townsend will be looking for a reaction from his side, who sit 11th in the league standings, when they take on Weymouth Reserves at St Mary’s Field tomorrow (7.45pm).

He said: “We need to get back to winning ways but it won’t be easy. I am confident we can get something out of it, if we play to our best ability we can beat any team in the league.”
