BLANDFORD UNITED 0 WEYMOUTH RESERVES 3

WEYMOUTH Reserves comfortably saw off rock-bottom Bland-ford United, in a dominant victory at Blandford Rec.

A first-half brace from former Dorchester Town man Josh Tennant put Jake Richmond’s side in control at the interval, and after Mark Ford had seen a number of efforts go close, he got his name on the score-sheet after 49 minutes to put the contest beyond doubt.

“We dominated, we did enough to win it and we’ve won it, so I am happy and it was good to keep a clean sheet as well,” Richmond told Echosport.

“It was quite a professional performance and I am pleased with how we got the job done.

“We won all of our battles, hit the bar, hit the post a couple of times and had one cleared off the line. Their keeper has made at least 10 saves and we could have racked up double figures, to be honest.”

Tennant was on hand to open the scoring on 12 minutes for the away side when he latched on to Adam Anstey’s delivery to find the net.

A smart turn and shot 11 minutes later from the frontman doubled the hosts’ advantage going in at the interval.

Ford then capped the scoring when he broke clear and looped a header over the onrushing Blandford goalkeeper, to round off a dominant display from the Terras.

Richmond added: “We have to be a little bit more ruthless in front of goal but I thought Adam Anstey and Aston Butcher were outstanding at the back.

“That was Anstey’s best game for at least 18 months, he captained the side really well and it was a real leader’s performance.”

Commenting on Tennant’s display, the Weymouth Reserves’ manager said: “One thing you will get with Josh is that he absolutely works his socks off for 90 minutes. He is really busy and is a dream to manage because of his work rate.”

Terras: Park, Sharpe (Harvey 75), Staines, Butcher, Anstey, G Will (Ayley 60), Nichols (Chatterton 64), Winsper, Zima, Tennant, Ford. Subs not used: Pidgley, J Will A win for Weymouth Reserves tonight at Bridport Reserves (7.45pm) will put Richmond’s charges level on points with the Dorset Premier League’s front-runners, but the man- ager expects a competitive encounter.

“It will be tough,” he added when speaking about tonight’s fixture. Bridport are a strong physical side and it’s another challenge for us.

“It’s a local derby but, if we approach it the right way, we will be fine.”
