MANAGER Jason Matthews claimed that a lack of discipline was something his side needed to eradicate, after they were left with just nine men to see off Mangotsfield Town.

Ed Palmer was sent off for a reckless challenge just before half-time, and full-back Jacob Wannell was given two petty yellow cards that earned him an early bath with 20 minutes left.

On both dismissals, Matthews told Echosport: “It looked like Ed has gone in with intent but in fairness to him he has won the ball, but on the other flip of the coin I can see why the ref has sent him off.

“Jake has left the referee little choice and I said to him at half-time that he needs to learn to keep his mouth shut, and it is a learning curve for him.

“I have young players and they are keen to impress, there is a little bit of over-keenness there and it cost Jake, but we have dug in with nine men and I am chuffed to get through to the next round.

“We have had a word about the discipline afterwards but it just goes to show that everyone wants to win and we are all in it together.

“It needs to be eradicated but on the other hand it shows to me that we are digging in for each other, it was just a little bit of stupidity.”
