POSITIVITY was evident at Weymouth Football Club’s ann-ual general meeting, as the club claimed it is in the best position for years.

A profit of £12,438 for 2012-13 was announced in the annual account figures, and it was also revealed that the club are looking into re-writing the original option agreement involving the ongoing ground situation with developers Wessex Delivery LLP.

Speaking at the beginning of the meeting, chairman Nigel Biddlecombe told the Terras’ shareholders: “I think that at the moment we can all be very pleased with things are going on the park, we are looking a useful outfit at Weymouth Football Club again and the team are giving us a very good reason to hold our heads up.

“I think the attendances at the club are showing that we are moving the right way which is wonderful, and it’s really something to take in the atmosphere back in this football club on a match day again.”

Solicitor Gareth Jones then revealed to shareholders the plan to re-draft the original option agreement.

The initial option previously stated that Wessex Delivery could claim the current land at the Bob Lucas Stadium as long as they found a club a new home within five miles of its current location.

He added: “Whereas in the old option Wessex Delivery could say we are going to give you a pound and we are going to put you elsewhere, they can’t. That is a huge change.

“The two parties are now trying to effectively draft a totally new option agreement.

“The big pictures are that Weymouth Football Club will have the ultimate decision on where it goes, Weymouth Football Club will have the ultimate decision on when it goes, and Wey-mouth Football Club will be involved in the stadium design all the way through.”

Weymouth and Portland Borough councillors recently refused planning permission for a new football stadium to be built at Lodmoor.
