AFTER recently celebrating their centenary, Milborne Sports have been forced to withdraw from the Dorset League due to a lack of players.

With years of success, which saw the club climb from the bottom of the league to the heights of Dorset League One, as well as winning the Dorset Intermediate Cup, the Lane Enders have had to end their association with the league.

Chairman Mike Lathbury said: “Despite having two teams last season, we have been unable to find enough players for just one squad to compete in Division One this term.

“Coach Paul Hammond departed at the end of last season, and his replacement was unable to get a team together.

“Despite pleas for more numbers, unfortunately there was no res-ponse, leading to our downfall and much disappointment for the club’s loyal committee.

“Fortunately, the renowned playing surface and facilities at Lane End will still be used, albeit not by a Milborne team, ensuring that the club can maintain the facility with the hope that a team can return from the ashes at a later date.”

The club become the second side in the area to fold in recent months, with the demise of former Redlands-based outfit Upwey & Broadwey.
