WEYMOUTH and Dorchester are set to do battle in their opening game of the Dorset Under-21 Development League at the Bob Lucas Stadium tonight (7.45pm).

The competition will also include teams from Poole Town, Wimborne Town and Swanage Town & Herston.

Weymouth’s side, which will be run by Paul Maitland, Dan Pidgley and Ben Richmond, is set to include a range of players from the Terras’ first-team, reserves and under-18s set- up.

From the senior squad, Mark Ford, pictured, Conor Jevon, Jamie West and Luke Winsper are all set to feature for the home side.

Maitland told Echosport: “It is something that the DCFA have set up that the bigger clubs have been looking for.

“It’s a development league which is very much aimed at producing first- team players and giving current first-team players that haven’t had much of a game or are coming back from injury the chance to play, because you can play three over-age players in it as well.

“There will be a mixture of first team players, reserves and under-18s in it, I’d imagine for both sides.”

The Magpies’ set-up is set to be run by under-18s manager Martin Pashen.
