PORTLAND United manager Gary Bailey is looking for the Blues to learn from their disjointed Dorset Premier League Cup performance, and put in an improved display against Sherborne Town Reserves tomorrow at Grove Corner (3pm).

Bailey’s side were rocked in a 4-4 draw with bottom club Blandford United last time out, and had to rely on penalties to progress to the next stage.

But with Dan Austin, Alex Halloran, Charlie May, Charlie Holland and Lewis Clarke all back available, Bailey is confident his side will perform to their capabilities.

He told Echosport: “I will be looking for an improved performance from last week, not just defensively but as a whole team.

“We have a few players coming back into contention and that will give me some food for thought with regards to team selection.

“Below-par performances will always happen but it is important you follow them with a positive display and show you are learning and not making the same mistakes again.”

Adam Linaker and Chris Read-er are unavailable for the Blues.

Commenting on 12th-placed Sherborne, Bailey added: “When playing a reserve side you can never be sure of what you will be up against but I’m expecting Sherborne to be well organised, enthusiastic and will come here and give it a real go.”

Elsewhere, Weymouth Reserves have a number of absentees in their ranks as they travel to Wareham Rangers tomorrow (3pm).

Manager Jake Richmond will be without keeper Ryan Park who is due to be included in the first-team squad for the FA Cup, Ashley Staines (back), Luke Chatterton (knee) and Dan Pidgely (wedding) are also unavailable.

Richmond has also lost defender Adam Anstey who has signed for Bridport, but goes with full praise from the Terras’ boss.

“We have made him a better footballer which is why Bridport have come in for him,” Richmond said commenting on Anstey.

“He goes with my blessing and he has been absolutely brilliant for me.”

Tenth-placed Bridport Reser-ves are also in action, they are away at Tintinhull (3pm).
