SKIPPER Stewart Yetton is looking to go further than he has ever gone in the FA Cup this season, as he is set to lead Weymouth into their third qualifying round clash at Billericay Town this afternoon (3pm).

During his illustrious non-League career, the Terras’ captain, pictured, has only ever reached the fourth qualifying round so far, a feat that Weymouth would equal with a win in Essex this afternoon.

“The furthest round I have ever actually played in myself is the fourth qualifying round, I have never played in the first round proper,” he told Echosport.

“When I was at Truro, with the squad we had, it was the one thing that we always seemed to get knocked out in or get a bad draw.”

But the Weymouth talisman, who has scored in both rounds of the Terras’ cup run so far, believes the squad he is part of now has a lot to give this term, and wants the opportunity to be in the first round draw alongside his beloved Plymouth.

He added: “The dream for me would be to get to the first round and get Argyle.

“It would obviously be great for the players but it would be great for the fans as well because they love an away day.

“When you play football for so long, you look for little milestones, and to get to the first round would be a proud achievement because it’s something I haven’t done.

“I could tick that box off and say I’ve been there and done it then. Plus, if we get to the first round and get a nice draw, there is potential to get on TV because we are such a big non-League club with a big history.

“It would be good if we could make some cup memories, especially with this group of players as well. Fans remember certain teams and it would be nice if we could do something that the fans will really remember.”

That dream of entering the main competition is still two rounds away, and the skipper insists that Weymouth are focused for what today’s opponents have in store for them.

He added: “It’s not going to be easy but it’s winnable. They are of a similar standard to us so it is going to be a tough hard game, we are under no illusions about it.

“When you have a hectic schedule in the league it is nice to put that to rest for a bit, we are all really excited about it and we are hoping to put ourselves in the hat for the next round.”
