GRAHAM Kemp was determined to savour his move for Andy Robinson after the midfielder turned out to be Dorchester Town’s FA Cup match-winner on Saturday.

Robinson joined the county town club less than 48 hours before the clash against Hendon, and he introduced himself in the best possible manner with an exquisite strike settling the tie.

The Magpies’ 1-0 success means they are now just one win away from reaching the first round proper of the competition for the second time in three seasons.

Dorchester boss Kemp hailed Robinson’s performance and felt his side were worthy of the victory.

“It’s not often you make a signing and he gets the winner,” he said. “You have to take these moments because they’re so few and far between.

“You can see Andy’s got quality, he’s got class, but it was maybe a bit of an eye-opener for him.

“You could see he’s played League football, his little touches were really good.

“He did well for us and capped it off with a goal.”

He continued: “You have days when, as a manager, you can smile and Saturday was one of those.

“On clear-cut opportunities I think we just edged it but it was as close as the scoreline suggests.

“We were a little bit naive in the last five minutes.

“I felt we got into good positions to keep hold of the ball but we went for the killer second goal and gave it away.

“Then we were on the back foot and we had to make long lung-busting runs to get back.

“We hung in there, had a little bit of luck, but sometimes you deserve that for the effort you put in.”

Kemp also praised the “brilliant” support of Dorchester’s fans, who are now looking forward to tomorrow night’s Red Insure League Cup contest at Weymouth.

Those that make the short journey over the Ridgeway will get to see another new Magpie in the shape of striker Jack Odam.

The speedy forward, who captained Bashley last season, joined from Gosport Borough on non-contract terms yesterday.

And Kemp saw exactly what Odam could do when he played against the former’s Hamworthy United team earlier this term.

He added: “Gosport sent him to Lymington for some games and he played against Hamworthy and ran us ragged.

“He is an off-the-shoulder striker who loves to run the channels.”

Meanwhile, proposals to convert Dorchester Town to a Community Benefit Society (CBS) have gathered pace with the formation of a steering group which will interact closely with Supporters Direct in monitoring the process of working towards community ownership.

The eight-man group consists of Matt Lucas (club chairman), David Martin (club secretary and vice-chairman), Paul Harris (club director and local businessman), David Ring (club director/fixture secretary and trust secretary), John Greenslade (trust chairman and local businessman), Shaun Hearn (administrator of Dorchester Town FC Ability Counts team and local businessman), Adam Robertson (local businessman) and Lloyd Spracklen (chairman of Dorchester Town Youth FC and local businessman).
