DORCHESTER Town will welcome FA Cup hero Jake Gosling back to the Avenue a week on Saturday after being drawn to face non-League giants Bristol Rovers in the final qualifying round of this season’s competition.

Gosling, who has recently been away playing international football for Gibraltar, wrote his name into county town folklore two years ago when he scored the winning goal in the Magpies’ memorable cup victory against Plymouth Argyle.

Rovers, fourth in the Vanarama Conference, visit Dorchester on Saturday, October 25, while just over the Ridgeway the Terras will be squaring up to Braintree Town for a place in the first round proper of the FA Cup.

The two clubs were pitted against each other yesterday in a mirror image of the draw for the same round last season – Braintree, currently 14th in the Conference, won 2-1 on that occasion.

Reacting to his side’s draw, Magpies’ boss Graham Kemp said: “It’s a great tie for the club. It will be a tough game but in cup football there is always a chance, and there will be no pressure on us so we can enjoy the occasion.

“I feel that when a team is able to go out and express themselves they are at their most dangerous.

“Two months ago, I was knocked out of the FA Cup with Hamworthy United so this is a bit of a reprieve for me.”

On Weymouth’s task, counterpart Jason Matthews added: “It’s a bit of déjà vu for us after last season.

“I’m really happy with a home draw, that’s what we wanted, though it is going to be a tough game.

“We’ve had so many away games in a short space of time that it’s nice for the fans to get a game like this at home.

“I hope they come out in force and really get behind us.”
