CHICKERELL United’s ruthlessness in front of goal is delighting boss Steve Coward – and he wants more of the same tomorrow when Sturminster Newton United visit the Stalls (3pm).

The Chickens have been on fire in their last two outings, hitt- ing the net four times against Gillingham Town Reserves and putting eight past Ferndown Sports.

But, like any manager, the first thing Coward is interested in is his side securing three points in their pursuit of the Dorset Senior League title.

They currently sit third in the table, a point behind South Cheriton United and three adrift of leaders Balti House, neither of which have lost in the league this term.

“We haven’t always been finishing our chances but we did last Saturday,” said Coward. “It was great to see Josh Why score four because he had been struggling a bit.

“He missed a couple of penalties earlier in the season so it was a confidence boost for him going into tomorrow.

“Hopefully we can all go into the Sturminster game with confidence and keep scoring like we have been.

“But it’s about picking up three points first and not always trying to win 8-0.”

Balti House host Blandford United Reserves tomorrow while Dorchester Sports, who have only played two fixtures this season, entertain Portland United Reserves.

Sports, last in action nearly a month ago when they lost 5-2 to Piddletrenthide Spartans, have had three teams pull out of matches against them and were the only side with a bye in the Dorset Senior Trophy.

“This has been a really hard start for us,” said Sports’ boss Ashley James. “We have many new players and just need a run of games.

“Luckily last Saturday we managed to get a friendly in, but to have only played two games this season is very disappointing.”

Sports will be without captain Karl Hicks, who is on holiday, but should hand Cormac Lochrie his debut after the centre-half signed last weekend to tighten up the back line.
