CHICKERELL UNITED 4 STURMINSTER NEWTON 0

CHICKENS’ chief Steve Coward hailed his side’s scoring exploits of late, as they breezed past Sturminster Newton United at the Stalls.

Although the home side missed a first-half penalty, Josh Why bagged a brace while Jamie Rawlings and Steve Churchill both scored to complete the comprehensive victory, Chickerell’s third on the bounce.

“With the cup game, we have scored 16 in three games and conceded none so we have to be happy with that,” Coward told Echosport.

Commenting on the performance itself, he added: “It was very good, we really are playing well at the moment.

“We could have scored a few more and we missed a penalty but apart from that we did alright.

“I don’t think they really troubled us at all.

“They had one shot which Steve Boore made a fantastic save from but that was the only one of the game.

“Once they (Sturminster Newton) got a couple of goals behind, they couldn’t really respond and we were comfortable throughout.”

The win moves Chickerell up to second spot in the league standings, three points adrift of leaders Balti House, who beat Blandford United Reserves 4-1 on Saturday.
