WESTLAND SPORTS 1 WEYMOUTH RESERVES 1

JAKE Richmond is sick of seeing his team finish games with 10 men, as another member of his Weymouth Reserves side saw red at Westland Sports.

Ashley Ayley was the culprit on this occasion, following Sammy Nichols and Sean Zima in recent weeks, after he got involved in an altercation which earned him his marching orders during the 1-1 draw.

A stamp off the ball from the former Hamworthy Recreation man gave the match official no other option than to make Richmond’s troops a man light for the final 15 minutes.

But although it looked as if the visitors were going to head home pointless, up popped Luke Chatt-erton to grab an equaliser in the 84th minute.

And Richmond’s men could have won the game two minutes from time when youngster Char-lie Jones, called up from the under-18s on the day, saw his well-struck free-kick palmed over the bar.

On the red-card incident, boss Richmond said: “He (Ayley) has competed for a ball and both lads have slid off the pitch. Ayley has gone to hop over him and the lad has grabbed his foot which the referee hasn’t seen.

“As Ayley yelled he has stamped on the lad to get himself free and the referee has had no choice but to send him off.

“I don’t blame the ref, I blame my players and it has to sink in, we have to manage games and not get sucked in.

“Because we are young and naive, other teams play on that and it’s frustrating because we warn them about it time and time again and it’s falling on deaf ears.

“It has to change because over the last couple of seasons we have had a fantastic disciplinary record.”

And although the sending off was a low point during the contest, Richmond was eager to praise some impressive performances, especially from frontman Josh Tennant.

“He worked his socks off,” Richmond added.

“He set up Chatts for the equaliser and was a massive handful for them all afternoon, I am delighted for him because his confidence is growing week by week.”
