DEFENDER Chris Dillon has full faith in Graham Kemp to resurrect the Magpies’ fortunes over the coming weeks.

The Avenue manager revealed to Echo-sport after Dorchester’s 4-0 defeat at Hereford United on Tuesday that he would have to do some “wheeling and dealing” to improve his squad.

And as well as wishing to survive the shake-up, Dillon is backing his boss to drag the county town side out of their current slump.

The former Eastleigh man, who was Kemp’s first signing on non-contract terms back in September, told Echosport: “I have got no plans of leaving and I hope that Kempy doesn’t want to get rid of me.

“Kempy is an honest manager and you know what you are going to get with him, I trust him and he hates losing.

“He has shown that he is more than willing to change things, he has got rid of players and brought players in and he is not scared of making those decisions.

“He brought me in and nobody wants to lose, when you have lost four on the bounce you become desperate to start winning games again. Everyone is desperate to turn things around.”

The central-defender believes the squad has to get back to basics to reverse their fortunes, and it is up to the players themselves to achieve that.

He added: “I think we make it too easy for teams to beat us at times, we just need to do the simple things right and build from that.

“We have just got to work hard, create our own luck and dig our way out of the situation that we are in.

“We are more than capable of doing so, the coaching staff can motivate us all they want but at the end of the day it’s down to the playing staff to grind out the results and to the basics right.”

Dillon has been forced to sit out the last three defeats with a groin problem, but is aiming to be fit for the weekend’s clash with Cambridge City at the Avenue (3pm).

He added: “I have had a slight groin strain which I picked up in the Bristol Rovers game, the Hereford game was too early but I should be fit for Saturday.

“I played in the Wimborne game and I struggled a bit to be honest, I wasn’t fit but I needed to play.”

Dorchester Town Reserves’ scheduled clash with Stourpaine last night was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
