WOOL & WINFRITH RESERVES 8 PORTLAND TOWN B 1

PORTLAND team fielded no fewer than five members of the Barber family in this clash at Wool & Winfrith Reserves, but it couldn’t stop them being well beaten.

With the wind behind them, Portland pushed men forward early on with lone striker Shane Maguire supported by Dan Barber and Connor Anstey, who marshalled the flanks.

But on 15 minutes, Town were undone with a ball from deep from the home side on what proved to be a nightmare afternoon as Wool & Winfrith took the lead. It was soon 2-0 as route one ball paid dividends for the hosts once again.

Town did get one back after a goal kick was headed into the path of Maguire who finished well, but Wool soon added a third before the break.

The islanders then folded to concede five more times, but a little bit of club history was made with 12 minutes left on the clock.

Club founder Andy Barber came on as a substitute for his debut for the club after seven years at the helm, meaning five of the Barber family were on the field at the same time with Andy’s three sons Edd, Dan and Nathan, as well as elder brother Paul.

After the game, Andy Barber said: “On a personal note, I’m delighted to have been able to play alongside four family members and, despite the result, I enjoyed it.”

The B side also donned a brand new kit, sponsored by Trade Doors and Windows Ltd, for the first time.

Barber added: “I’ve really got to thank Michele and Joe Djeebet for supporting the club.”
