DORCHESTER RESERVES 0 STOURPAINE 3

THE Magpies’ interest in the Dorset Senior Trophy is over for this season following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Stourpaine at the Avenue.

An Ashley Robbins’ brace and Oliver Wareham’s strike proved more than enough to send the visitors through to the quarter-finals.

Dorset League Division One side Stourpaine went in front early on when Chris Williams was penalised for a foul in his own box and Robbins scored from the penalty spot.

Robbins doubled his side’s tally later in the half, taking advantage of a loose ball on the edge of the Dorchester area to slot past home skipper Shane Murphy.

David Jerrard and Williams went close for the hosts before the break but they both missed the target with headers.

A coming together between Williams and Simon Hyde then resulted in the two men picking up yellow cards around the hour mark.

Half-time substitute Josh Bertie was denied a goal by Stourpaine James Tapper, who also kept out an effort from Luke Brown.

Dorchester joint-managers Neil Mackie and Jay Keating brought Sam Old on for Adam Frohlich in a last-ditch bid to rescue the tie, but Ware-ham caught the hosts on the break to net the Steamers’ third.

Wareham and team-mate Bobby Read were cautioned in the closing stages, while Bertie nearly grabbed a consolation for the Magpies.

“The early penalty put us on the back foot and we never really got going after that,” said Mackie.

“We had a stern chat with the boys at the break and asked them to work harder for each other, but it wasn’t to be.

“Stourpaine stuck to their task and made it difficult for us to get any rhythm.”
