WEYMOUTH have acted quickly and shown zero tolerance to an incident where a fan entered the field of play during the club’s clash with Banbury United, at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday.

The club revealed to Echosport that the individual, who was promptly escorted off the pitch after climbing over the advertising hoardings, is banned immediately from attending fixtures at the ground.

Commenting on the incident during the 3-2 win over the Puritans, which could land the club a hefty fine and further punishment, chairman Chris Pugsley told Echosport: “He is officially banned from the club.

“We accept the fact that a supporter should not get over the fence, he did, the team and the supporters got him off as fast as they could and he knows he was wrong to do it. It’s a regrettable incident.

“It is only one supporter who has done it out of more than 600 people and I assume he realises he has been stupid and has let the club down.

“It’s something that can’t occur again and it’s something the club has to put right.”

Club director and secretary Pete Saxby added: “Weymouth Football Club do not condone any such behaviour and we have taken the immediate decision that the gentleman is banned.”

Chairman of the Weymouth Supporters Association Ade Macdonald also gave his views on the incident.

“There is no place whatsoever for it,” he claimed.

“It’s in no way a reflection of Weymouth fans whatsoever, they are the best supporters in this league and it’s just one individual letting himself down. “If people do things like this, it is the club ultimately that face the fines and face the punishment from the league.”
