LOANEE Calvin Brooks says he has never before experienced a winning mentality like the one around the Bob Lucas Stadium at the moment.

Brooks scored his first Weymouth goal in Tuesday night’s come-from-behind victory over Bideford, which again showed the Terras’ powers of recovery.

Speaking to Echosport, centre-back Brooks, whose loan from Yeovil is set to expire after the Boxing Day derby with Dorchester, highlighted the belief the players have in their ability to grind out results.

“We always try to be level or ahead at half-time, though we haven’t been managing to do that this season,” he said. “But we always feel like we can get goals late in games.

“And when we turn up for matches there is a strong belief among everyone that we are going to win, even if we are behind at half-time.

“I’ve played for a few teams and haven’t had that feeling before.

“We’ve come back so many times in the second half of games, and when you’ve got someone like Stewart Yetton then you always have a chance.”

For a long time on Tuesday it looked like the Terras’ five-match winning streak in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division was going to come to an end.

But after Brooks struck with 12 minutes to go, skipper Yetton popped up to notch his 21st goal of the campaign in all competitions.

Commenting on breaking his duck for Weymouth, Brooks added: “The last time I scored was on my Dorchester debut at Eastleigh a couple of seasons ago.

“I didn’t really celebrate on Tuesday because I wanted to get back into my position for the restart.

“Jason had said at half-time that he wanted one of the big lads to step up at set-pieces and I had been hanging back until then – I might go up for more now.”
