WEYMOUTH manager Jason Matthews is well aware of the threats that 16th-placed Paulton Rovers possess, as the sides are set to lock horns at the Bob Lucas Stadium tonight (7.45pm).

The Terras’ boss, who has masterminded his side to the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division summit with a run of 13 league games unbeaten so far, knows a good deal about tonight’s opposition, and admitted he cast his eye over some of the current Rovers’ squad in the summer.

He also has an extremely convenient base when it comes to doing his scouting on the Bristol-based outfit, who gained promotion via the Evo-Stik South & West Division play-offs last term.

“My wife’s mum and dad live opposite the ground,” he told Echosport.

“They are not a bad side, they are a dangerous side and are doing extremely well. They have done superb to get up and they are giving their first season a go.

“They have got some good players and they are in a position where they are probably not going to go up or not going to go down this year, but I will be warning the boys against complacency.

“Some of their players we looked at and spoke to in the summer.

“They have danger in Jon Davies and Ben Lacey who are good players for them and we will be wary of that, but it is more a case of worrying about our own performances.

“We dug out a great result on Saturday and we will be looking to continue to do that, Paulton will be very similar to Cambridge.

“Nothing is going to be won or lost but if we win it puts a bit of pressure on the sides around us.”

With Jake Wannell jetting off to Australia yesterday, Jordan Copp could be in contention to start at left-back. Sam Poole will still miss out with his broken nose.

Matthews is also keen to boost his numbers further this week, and commented about the speculation surrounding the club with re-signing former loanee Tristan Plummer, who recently had his contract cancelled by Aldershot Town.

“Obviously I have spoken to Tristan, he is a player I really like but it is a case of balancing it at the moment,” he added.

“I could really do with bringing in a defender, we are very close with one or two and it should pan out this week but I still need to work sensibly with the budget, we don’t want to go crazy, although we are in a good position and the board are backing me to strengthen.”

“It’s just a case of being patient and getting the right person in.”
