MANAGER Jason Matthews admitted a lack of depth may have cost his side their unbeaten home league record, as they were rocked by Paulton Rovers at the Bob Lucas Stadium last night.

The Terras lost skipper Stewart Yetton midway through the first half to a nasty gash to the head, and full-back Ashley Wells was given his marching orders for a reckless challenge just short of the interval during the 4-2 defeat to the Bristol-based club.

And the Terras’ boss believed his stretched squad were left slightly exposed.

“It was very disappointing, we didn’t start well and that set the tone for the night,” he told Echosport.

“A lack of bodies probably caught up with us and I am trying incredibly hard to get the right people in but I won’t just bring people in for the sake of it.

“Hopefully deals will come to fruition this week. It’s been a frustrating 10 days for me to be honest, twice I have been let down at the last minute by what I think will be good signings for us, this was the first time it caught up with us and we are aware we need some strength in depth if we are going to go for the league.

“Credit to Paulton, they tried to slow the game down, we couldn’t get our passing going and it was a very frustrating evening.

“The boys are gutted, in saying that we conceded some sloppy goals, created some chances, and it just wasn’t our night.”

Commenting on the injury to skipper Yetton, Matthews added: “It was a big blow because he is our driving force. He has already messaged me saying he will have a helmet like Petr Cech’s ready for Saturday.”

On the red card brandished to defender Wells, the Weymouth chief had no complaints with referee Ron Ganfield’s verdict.

“It was probably an accumulation and frustration of silly niggly fouls which slowed the game down, it frustrated us and led to a frustrated tackle,” he claimed.

“Their lad has gone in for it the same as Ash has, Ash has won the ball but gone straight through. I don’t have too many complaints, Ash wears his heart on his sleeve and I won’t be fining him for it.”
