CADBURY HEATH 4 BRIDPORT 1

BRIDPORT’S indifferent form this year continued as they went down to a 4-1 defeat at Cadbury Heath, despite a goal of the season contender from Warren Byerley.

Trevor Senior’s men have still only won once in 2015, seeing their chances of a possible top-six finish in the Toolstation Western Premier Division gradually fade.

It took Heath just seven minutes to take the lead in Saturday’s clash, though the visitors did get back on level terms when Byerley smashed in a glorious shot from 30 yards.

A miss by Jamie Filkins then proved crucial as the home side netted twice before the break to take the game away from the Bees.

Matt Huxley sealed the win for the hosts, who drew 1-1 at St Mary’s Field less than a fortnight previously, in the second period.

“It was a poor result,” said Bees’ boss Senior. “The goals we let in were disappointing.

“We started off evenly matched and then they scored out of nothing.

“We had a couple of chances to equalise that we could have done better with.

“But Warren Byerley made it 1-1 on the half hour with a screamer into the top corner.

“It could have been 2-1 to us after that but Jamie Filkins tried to shoot when Chris Clarke was in a better position.

“We should have got through to half-time at 1-1 but they got a second that we should really have done better with.

“Then we were attacking, lost possession and it was 3-1.

“We didn’t really look like getting back into it in the second half, though we thought we should have had a penalty for a foul on Warren.

“We were still in the game at 3-1 down and it would have been interesting if we had scored then.

“We had a couple of long-range efforts, one from Matt Morley, before they scored again.

“Huxley had a free header from six yards and you just can’t give him chances like that.”

He went on to add: “I think 4-1 was a flattering scoreline for Cadbury Heath.

“We could have come in at half-time 3-1 up instead of them.

“But it seems to be the way things are at the moment, we can’t take our chances and other teams can.

“We missed a chance to go 2-1 up and then they scored two quick goals.”
