NEIL Martin has finally got his wish in joining Weymouth, according to player-manager Jason Matthews.

The full-back, who announced his switch to the Terras from Poole Town via Twitter late on Monday evening, is set to go straight into the squad for tonight’s trip to Corby Town, subject to the necessary paperwork being completed.

And Matthews believes the defender, who he played alongside at the Avenue with Dorchester Town, will be a great fit for the side.

He told Echosport: “Neil has wanted to come to Weymouth for six months now and finally he has got his wish.

“He is someone I know well and I feel he will fit our style of play, and give us something we have been lacking in recent weeks.

“He replaces Jake Wannell and gives us an out-and-out left-back, we are delighted to have him on board.

“Neil has done very well at Poole and Dorchester and I am sure he will do very well at Weymouth.

“He is a good lad and is good around the dressing room, it will be good to welcome a fresh face.”

Matthews revealed to Echosport last week that the Terras would not be in a position to pay the Dolphins for Martin, who was under contract at Tatnam, and he confirmed the deal between the clubs was a free transfer.

“Poole waived any fee, we weren’t in a position to pay a fee and there wasn’t one involved,” he added.

“Poole released him at the end of the day, I am looking forward to seeing Neil play and he fits our wage structure.”
