STREET 2 BRIDPORT 3

A DRAMATIC comeback saw Bridport pick themselves off the canvas to seal all three points at Street.

Two goals from Chris Clarke either side of a Jamie Symes’ strike sealed all three points for the Bees to give them back-to-back league wins for the first time in 2015.

Trevor Senior’s men, who were undone by the Somerset outfit in the reverse fixture on Boxing Day, were caught in possession trying to play the ball out from the back, which allowed the home team to nip in and hit the opener.

“We usually have high scoring games against them, we started well but gifted them the first goal,” the Bees’ boss said.

And Street soon doubled their lead when they picked the ball up in the middle of the field and capped off a breakaway move to make it 2-0. But the visitors rallied and managed to get a goal back before the break.

After Adam Symes won a corner on the right, Dan Wise’s delivery was kept alive by Jamie Symes and Clarke was on hand to turn the ball home on the volley from inside the six-yard box.

Following the interval, Matt Morley and Clarke combined well for the former to cut the ball back from inside the area, and the ball fell to Jamie Symes to level things up at 2-2 from 12 yards out.

And when Warren Byerley challenged in the air 10 minutes from time, Clarke netted the winner to give Bridport victory.

Senior added: “There were a few words said at half-time because I didn’t feel that we were working hard enough but, in the second half, I really could not fault the lads, we dominated the half really.

“Ashley Weeks had nothing to do, we defended really well in the second half. We were always in the game, we just got punished for two lapses but we showed great character to come back.

“I think it was a bit of pride we were playing for really. It was the fact that we didn’t do ourselves justice against Street in the first game and the same goes for Gillingham on Monday, we feel like we owe them a performance.”

Bridport will now be looking for a hat-trick of league wins when they take on Gillingham Town at St Mary’s Field on Monday (1pm).
